1996 Toyota Tacoma For Sale by Original Owner

For Sale - - 1996 Black Toyota Tacoma Extend Cab Pickup Truck 2x4

To help you out, I place a few links to other websites that have info about this truck.

I am the original owner!! I bought this back in 1996 at a Toyota Dealership in Orange County when it had 31 miles on it. I know the history of this car and have the paperwork to back it up.

It's been a good truck to me all of these years and I've always been one for preventative maintenance. I've taken it in for oil changes and services regularly or, as needed. The most recent problem that I had with this truck is that it needed a new starter, so about a year ago, I got the 90k service, a new starter, I got the breaks worked on and some other little things to help fine tune it.

I'm not going to lie, this truck has been driven a lot. Also, it can use a good deep cleaning and maybe a more work.  It drips some oil from time to time under the driver side door, so it may be a seal that's needs to be fixed somewhere.  The check engine light will come on once in a while even after the service a year ago. It runs really well, handles good, and it hasn't given me any trouble, so I decided not to worry about it.  But, that's just me.

Also, when I was living in California, some moron (I know that it was my neighbor, but I couldn't prove it.) tried to use a screw driver to 'unlock' my passenger door. The lock looks bad from the outside, but it works just fine.
  • 5 Speed Manual Transmission
  • Manual 4 wheel drive; otherwise, it's rear wheel drive
  • AM/FM CD Pioneer Stereo with Remote (about 4 years old.)
  • Kind of new tires (1 1/2 years old.)
  • New Starter (1 year ago)
  • AC is good, but can be serviced.
  • Locks and windows are all manual.
  • Lifted up some by factory.
  • Full size spare in good condition
  • Hydraulic Jack
  • Will include jumper cables if you would like

I have NEVER been in a MAJOR accident with this vehicle!!  I was in a few smaller fender bender type of accidents, but I don't recall dates:
  • I backed into someone in front of the Marriot in Downtown LA going about 5 MPH. (No scratched on mine, but dented his front door pretty bad.)
  • I got rear ended going south on the 605. My truck had a few scratches and I had to replace the spare; however, the front of his truck went halfway under my truck.
  • Rear ended again going South on Carmenita right before getting on the 405. A huge SUV rammed me at a good speed and pushed my rear bumper down a little. I decided not to get it replaced because I never tow anything.
Dings and dents  (photos for all this stuff is at the end)
  • The glove box has a major scratch across it a little dented.
  • There are a lot of little nicks and dents within the paint.  Like I say, it's been driven and hit by a lot of rocks.
  • The Windshield has a few good cracks, but it hasn't split all of the way up or down.
  • The bed can use a bed liner.  It has a lot of scrapes due to the wear and tear.
  • The passenger side door lock is messed up because my neighbor (I know it was her, but I don't have proof) tried to break in with a screwdriver.
Below are specs that I got off of another site with a few comments of mine here and there.

1996 Toyota Tacoma Base Regular Cab Pickup Performance & Efficiency Standard Features:
  • 2,438 cc 2.4 liters 4 in-line front longitudinal engine with 95 mm bore, 86 mm stroke, 9.5 compression ratio, double overhead cam and four valves per cylinder (Huh?)
  • Unleaded fuel
  • Fuel Economy EPA highway (l/100km): 9.4 (I generally get about 13 MPG on average.)
  • Multi-point injection fuel system
  • 57 liter fuel tank (When I'm running on fumes, I can put about 15 gallons in it.)
  • Power: 106 kW , 142 HP @ 5,000 rpm; 160 ft lb @ 4,000 rpm (Don't count on this.  You can tow a U-haul trailer, but I wouldn't advise much more than that.)

Toyota Tacoma Base Regular Cab Pickup Exterior & Aerodynamics Standard Features:
  • Front and rear chrome bumpers
  • Driver externally adjustable black door mirror , passenger externally adjustable door mirror (Meaning, if someone bumps them then you have to readjust them.  This has been one of the only peeves that I had with this truck.)
  • External dimensions: overall length (mm): 4,585, overall width (mm): 1,689, overall height (mm): 1,549, ground clearance (mm): 160, wheelbase (mm): 2,624, front track (mm): 1,394, rear track (mm): 1,415 and curb to curb turning circle (mm): 10,790 (Sorry, I'm not going to convert this to US measurements.)
  • Conventional lens halogen bulb single headlights
  • Gloss black paint
  • Manual sliding rear window
  • Tinted glass (The back ones are tinted WAY more than the front ones.)
  • Underbody protection for fuel tank
  • Weights: gross vehicle weight rating (kg) 1,905, curb weight (kg) 1,170 and max legal load (kg) 735
  • Windshield wipers (Being in Arizona, you probably won't use these much.)

1996 Toyota Tacoma Base Regular Cab Pickup Interior Standard Features
  • Front ashtray (Never been used because I'm not a smoker.)
  • Cargo area dimensions: length (mm): 1,892 and front width (mm): 1,471
  • Front seats illuminated cigar lighter (This never worked right. You have to keep pushing in on it if you want it to heat up. I never replaced it because I never used it.)
  • Courtesy lights
  • Front seats cup holders. (Also, there are cup holders in the back.)
  • Driver front airbag (Sorry, passenger!)
  • Glove compartment
  • Head restraints on front seats
  • Internal dimensions: front headroom (mm): 970, front hip room (mm): 1,387, front leg room (mm): 1,059 and front shoulder room (mm): 1,374 (I'm 6'2" and I fit comfortably.)
  • Rear view mirror
  • Plastic steering wheel
  • Cloth seat upholstery with additional vinyl
  • Seating: three seats 60/40 in front and kind of a bench in back  ('Room for 5' but, I wouldn't advise it. 4 is fine, but the 5th person has to sit in the front between the driver and passenger. For a stick shift, not a good thing.)

Here are some more photos. (I was having some trouble with these and ran out of time to fix it. So, these are going to be squished for now.)
